Students Hostel Complex, MOUAU

The Students Hostel Complex at Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, is a symmetrical three-storey block facing a broad lawn. A central gabled entrance porch anchors the composition, flanked by wings of open walkways screened with perforated blockwork, with solid end towers closing the elevation on either side.

The perforated screens and open galleries keep rooms cross-ventilated in Umudike's humid climate, while the single controlled entrance simplifies supervision of a large student population. Design Modules provided the architecture for the complex, delivering robust, low-maintenance accommodation for the university.
